About the class
Welcome as you are! All you need to do is to lie down in Savasana and follow the voice of the teacher, and you´ll be guided into a deep, long and lovely relaxation. The purpose is to rest in the liminal space in between being awake and being asleep. If you fall asleep – that is ok too, you´ll still get a calming and nurturing effect on the nervous system.
Everyone can join, no previous yoga experience required, and you don´t even need to wear yoga clothes: just make sure that what you wear is lose fit and comfortable, with space to breath.
We´ll start with a short introduction to what Yoga Nidra is – followed by a 45 min Yoga Nidra practice.
We´ll end with a few minutes of a breathing practice, Nadi Sodhana.
About Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra can be described as a guided meditation technique, usually practiced lying down in savasana (resting position on your back). All you have to do is to listen to the voice of the teacher – and you will be systematically guided through different phases: body scanning, focusing on breathing, visualisation etc.
Nidra means sleep in Sanskrit, and Yoga Nidra is often called the sleepless sleep, as we are taken into a state between wakefulness and sleep where both the body and the brain go into a deep relaxation and recovery. This state is called the alpha-theta state, and it refers to the frequency of brain waves. Studies have shown that practicing Yoga Nidra can increase dopamine levels in the body and lower stress hormones, boost creativity and
Jennie fell in love with yoga in 1997 and has been teaching full time internationally since 2005. She has attended a wide range of teacher trainings and workshops over the years, ie. in Ashtanga vinyasa, Anusara yoga, Vinyasa flow, Virya yoga, Yin yoga, Yoga Nidra, psychology and anatomy. She is curious and eager to continually broaden as well as deepen her knowledge; yoga is a lifelong exploration.
Jennie strongly believes that there are many truths in yoga; what is “right” will be different from one person to another, and her intention with her teaching is to guide the students into learning how to communicate with their bodies and mind; using principles of alignment as a structure and then tuning in to what is true to them instead of just listening to general guidelines. She encourages curiosity and to cultivate breath, awareness and gratitude; to make it easier to access these qualities into our everyday life, off the mat. She’s warm, enthusiastic and has an extensive knowledge in biomechanics and how to make the practice safe but still a nurturing exploration.
Jennie is E-RYT 500 (Yoga Alliance, USA) and has been running teacher training courses in with her team in India and Europe since 2007. She lives in Goa, India.
